Digital Badges
One of the many distractions that has prevented me from blogging is a project at Daytona State that I am currently developing with Cheryl Kohen on using digital badges to promote digital and information literacy among DSC students.
You can check out the initial proposal for our idea at the Knight News Challenge. The basic idea is to use digital badges to encourage digital literacy acquisition among our students, but to initiate the program through our student workers in the Learning Commons because the peer tutors are the ones who frequently answer digital literacy questions for other students. The idea is that we'll be not only training our student workers, but also spreading awareness of the program through the workers to other students (part of having badges is telling others about them, after all).
We're considering using the quizzes function of LibGuides CMS initially to assess skills, but LibGuides does not allow for file uploads, that we know of, so that presents a potential problem. If you have any recommendations for platforms or work-arounds, please let me know here or comment on our project on the Knights page.
Here's to innovation, digital and information literacy, and time for blog posts!
Update:
Check out my badges @ Credly as I seek to learn and earn them! I'm currently exploring Connected Educators Month and participating in their curriculum to earn badges.
